Squaring Numbers Ending with “5”

Squaring Numbers Ending with 5 can be simplified using the Vedic Maths. Squaring is simply multiplying a number by itself. Now, you will see, how to square numbers ending with 5.

Ex-1. Find the square of 65.
65x65

• First, we multiply the last digits, 5 × 5, and write down 25 as RHS (right-hand side) part of our answer.
• Now, multiply the tens digit, 6, by the next higher number, which is 7.
• So, we multiply 6 by 7 and write down the answer 6 x 7 = 42 as LHS (left-hand side) of our answer.
• So, our answer is 4225.

Ex-2. Find the square of 95.
95x95
• In this example, first we multiply the last digits, 5 × 5, and write down 25 as RHS (right-hand side) part of our answer.
• Apart from 5 the number is 9. The number that comes after 9 is 10.
• Now, we multiply 9 by 10 and write down the answer 9 x 10 = 90 as LHS (left-hand side) of our answer.
• So, our answer is 9025.

In the above examples, we solved two-digits numbers. But the same technique can be extended to numbers of any length. We can also square 3-digit numbers or large numbers in this way very easily.

Ex-3. Find the square of 105.
105x105
• We multiply the last digits, 5 × 5, and write down 25 as RHS (right-hand side) part of our answer.
• Apart from 5 the number is 1 and 0, that is, 10. The number that comes after 10 is 11.
• We multiply 10 by 11 and write down the answer 10 x 11 = 110 as LHS (left-hand side) of our answer.
• So, our answer is 11025.

Ex-4. Find the square of 185.
185x185
• First, we multiply the last digits, 5 × 5, and write down 25 as RHS (right-hand side) part of our answer.
• Apart from 5 the number is 1 and 8, that is, 18. The number that comes after 18 is 19.
• Now, we multiply 18 by 19 and write down the answer 18 x 19 = 342 as LHS (left-hand side) of our answer.
• So, our answer is 34225.
